West Mercia Police have installed forensic based door security devices, known as Chain Reaction DNA, to a large number of homes in Worcester to ease the fear of burglary and forced entry into an occupied or unoccupied home.

The installations have been carried out in association with StranDNA, the manufacturer, Worcester St Johns Neighbourhood Watch and Safer Worcester, who have funded the project.

Chain Reaction DNA is a Police recognised burglary reduction initiative that utilizes forensic trace technology. If an attempt is made to force entry through a protected door the device automatically sounds a high decibel alarm to alert neighbours and passers-by and at the same time sprays the offender(s) with a unique UV based forensic trace liquid.  Each unit is registered to a database and warning signs indicate to a potential offender that they will be marked should they attempt an entry.

Chain Reaction DNA has been fitted to numerous homes and businesses throughout the UK and not one of the entry points to which it has been installed have suffered a re-offence or an unlawful entry leading StranDNA to believe the deterrent value is working.

Other police services, which have realised the crime reduction benefits of Chain Reaction DNA, include Bedfordshire Police, who hve installed devices in a police safe house to protect victims of domestic violence, and Staffordshire Police and West Midlands Police, who have installed devices to homes which have been repeatedly burgled, trap houses and homes of the more vulnerable.

Yesterday, the on-line Worcester News carried an informative story about this latest installation.
