Here’s a story from West Mercia Police via friend of this website, Graham Houghton:
Public warning:
Fraudsters are posing as Sky Customer Service Advisers, to inform [potential victims] that a replacement sky card is to be issued. Later in the day, the scammer's will then visit the property with a replacement card and then demand either payment for the card or inform them that a refund is due.
A card reader is then presented and a request to put the debit card or credit card into it is demanded.
Don’t be fooled, Protect yourself
- Sky will never send out replacement cards without your permission, if they do these will be issued in the post and not by personal courier
- Always request to see ID Badges, if you’re not sure then contact Sky customer services to confirm the identification. Or if you believe the call to be suspicious, then end the call and immediately report it to 101.
- Never give out your bank, credit card details or PIN number in any circumstances
- Legitimate businesses will never ask you to disclose personal information
Thanks Graham
