The Crime Prevention Website

Residents in Tooting can find out ways to improve their home security by booking a free crime prevention survey with the Tooting Neighbourhood Policing Team.

Most burglaries are opportunistic and burglars will choose houses that have little or no obvious security, appear unoccupied, have easy, unobserved access to the side and rear, and provide them with the chance to gain entry without being seen or heard.

The free crime prevention survey is an opportunity for homeowners and tenants to be visited by trained officers to look at existing security measures and suggest simple ways to further reduce the chances of becoming a victim of burglary.

During the appointment, officers will assess the security of your home and provide advice on how simple changes can improve the security inside and outside of the property.

Police Sergeant Simon Harris from the Furzedown and Graveney Safer Neighbourhoods Team said: “It is possible to dramatically reduce burglaries by taking simple security measures to deter burglars and remove some of the opportunities that present themselves as easy targets.

This initiative is part of our on-going priority to reduce burglaries in the area and I strongly advise residents to take up this free survey.”

Any homeowner or tenant in the Tooting Area can book an appointment by calling 0208 247 8171 or see contacts for details.

TCPW Comment:  This used to be one of the services offered by the now extinct Met Police Crime Prevention Officers, so it’s interesting to see that Tooting Police see value in resurrecting this service, albeit on a local basis and as part of an initiative to reduce burglary.  The Safer Neighbourhoods Teams are only offering this service because they think it will help and so I hope local residents will take advantage of the offer and invite them in.  Good news!

If you don’t live in these areas of Tooting, but would like to survey your home, don’t forget to use the free Home Security Survey application on this site.
