This is me thinking out loud!
As I write this item there are 17 people looking at the newly re-launched Crime Prevention Website's Forum. That’s two registered users, one search engine bot and fourteen guests. So what can I do to persuade more guests to sign up and join in the discussions?
This is a difficult one, so I’ve had a little think about it and come up with four main reasons why people might want to join in:
- The Crime Prevention Website is Google ranked Number 1 for ‘crime prevention’ and number 1 to 3 for ‘crime prevention news’, so it’s a popular website with around 8,000 visitors a week, which seems to suggest that it’s a good place to start up a discussion. Even if people don’t respond at least you’ll know your piece will be read
- You can remain anonymous, which means that you can get things off your chest and say exactly what you want to say (within the forum rules, of course!)
- The website is used extensively by police personnel and Neighbourhood Watch members and so is a great place to share best practice and talk through problems
- Because it won’t cost us anything we are offering Neighbourhood Watch groups their own free and private forum. Just use ‘Contact us’ if this is something that might interest you.
I intend to promote and support the forum by posting up new discussions on a regular basis and encouraging others to do so.
You’ll hear about these via this news page, my Facebook Page and via Twitter and I’ll add a new regular section in our Newsletter to keep my subscribers up-to-date.
I get a lot of emails during the year from people with crime prevention questions and I will be (anonymously) sharing these questions on the forum so you can see the responses I’m giving. I certainly don’t have all the answers, so this’ll give you an opportunity to help out as well and put me right if I’ve got something wrong!
Forums are notoriously difficult to get going and so I really do need your help to make it a success, so please sign up and say ‘hello’ and spread the word.
Thank you for your support
