The Crime Prevention Website

If you’re thinking about buying a new front door make sure it’s secure.  For a long time you’ve been able to purchase doors that have been tested and certificated to a British standard known as PAS 24:2012 – doors of enhanced security.  They are a little more expensive than the ‘normal’ door, but they are designed to keep out the burglars as well as the weather.

A couple of years ago my local door and window man ordered in a really nice composite doorset (door, frame and multi-point locks together) and fitted is was £750. As long as I remember to engage the locks by lifting the handle on the inside and turning the key I can sleep peacefully at night.

Doors that are certificated to this standard are available in all materials (Timber, PVCu, Aluminium, Fibreglass, etc.), in all shapes and sizes, with and without glass, and in a range of colours.

Check the link below for much more information and insist on the standard.
