The Crime Prevention Website

I thought it important to say an upfront thank you to my former colleagues who will be on duty now and throughout Christmas and the New Year.  There’s always extra demand on police on the build-up to Christmas.  In my day it was the IRA, but now, of course, it’s the terrorist threat that is so real.

Xmas Eve in particular is an incredibly busy time for the police, because too much booze for some will lead to uncontrolled emotions, fights, falls and vehicle accidents.  We can help the police do their job by simply remembering to be careful so that we don’t become a Christmas crime statistic.

Having the Christmas period interrupted by work shifts is no fun, but if my past experience is something to go by I know full well that there will be much humour and munching of sausage rolls and mince pies down at the station when officers pop in for a tea break.  (We used to have a piece of mistletoe hanging from the light fitting in the front office at Acton Police Station - not sure why)

So do please spare a thought for the men and women of all our police services who will be out and about as normal.  My presents will be under the tree, but their presence will be keeping me and my family safe.  Thank you.
