The Crime Prevention Website

I’ve been watching the odd episode of Break in Britain Series 2 on iPlayer – repeated from September last year. In each episode the presenters visit the scene of two burglaries and interview the victims. The local police crime reduction officer is then asked to assess the security of the property (out of 10) and then a security company comes around to make the improvements based on the officer’s recommendations. The crime reduction officer then reassesses the security and gives it a new score.

I watched episode 13 today which looked at two night-time burglaries; one in south Wales and one in West Yorkshire. The stand out features included open access to the rear of the houses, high hedges, unlocked sheds and alarms.

It’s great that the BBC is running this series, which I recommend to all Neighbourhood Watches. I’m also pleased to be able to tell you that the Crime Prevention Website is one of the featured websites on Break-in Britain’s website page!

You can assess your own home security needs by using my Home Security Survey application. It’s anonymous and free and will only take you about 20 minutes. Once completed you will be able to view a tailor-made security report and find out what your risk assessment score is. You can also save the results for future reference by typing in your email address (which is NOT used for any other purpose) or you can print it out (printer friendly by the way). The report provides you with links to other parts of the website for further detailed advice.
