A few weeks ago I had the pleasure of addressing a large number of London Borough Neighbourhood Watches at a meeting organised by the Metropolitan Police. Amongst the number was Barnet Boroughwatch, which is the umbrella organisation for all the Neighbourhood Watches in the London Borough of Barnet, which number about 650!
Consequently I was contacted by Paul, the Boroughwatch’s administrator, and ‘hey presto’ we’re now linked up – excellent news!
Neighbourhood Watch remains a powerful organisation against crime and, having been involved in its origins in London in the early 1980s, I like to consider myself as one of its keenest supporters.
Barnet Boroughwatch’s useful website tells us that Neighbourhood Watch is about looking out for each other; acting together to pick up on anything in the neighbourhood that might cause worry or concern – being a good neighbour and caring about your community. And, apart from protecting homes and property against burglary, a team approach by Neighbourhood Watch can help reduce all sorts of local crimes and problems, such as vandalism, graffiti, poor lighting or maybe a lack of local amenities.
Everyone can do a little bit to help and I know Barnet Boroughwatch would love to hear from you. So if you live in Barnet and would like to know more do please visit their website
Everyone can be a member of Neighbourhood Watch, so please join and help out.
