Well, the weather here in London has certainly put pay to my gardening and DIY for a couple of days and so I’ve been catching up with emails, Facebook, Twitter and so on. As a consequence here’s a quick bulletin:
Oiling locks I mentioned last week that I got a right telling off about suggesting you use WD40 to oil your locks! Well, I did say only to spray the key, so I don’t think too much damage has been done. The expert who contacted me (a locksmith called Mark) makes the following suggestions. Here’s what he said: “WD40 has two major problems with its consistency: it stays wet and thus attracts dirt and dust; it also gets thicker as it get older, with the grit, dust and age. This is the ideal cocktail to jam up your lock. Hence you should use a proper lock lubricant e.g. Kaba Lock Cleaner, Abus Lock Lube or a PTFE dry lube” Thanks for the very helpful advice Mark.
Become a Digital Superhero. Muz Janoowalla contacted me via Twitter to ask me to promote his thought provoking talk on TEDx. He makes a passionate plea to all of us (both the public and the police) to embrace all forms of digital technology, such as phone apps to help to keep ourselves safer, fight back and solve crime. I was well impressed and of course I’ve done as he asked. Listen and watch the talk on You Tube here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AiZS6b5C9qw I would really appreciate some shares – thanks.
#ProperLockIt I was very impressed with Crimestoppers, Norfolk Police and Norfolk Council’s latest video to tackle bike crime in Norwich. It shows you how simple it can be to steal a bike if it’s not locked properly. You’ll find a link to some advice at Crimestoppers and from this page on The Crime Prevention Website.
The Home Security Survey. Something’s going down in North London today, because there’s been a sudden increase in the number of surveys being conducted there. Of course this is good to see and so thank you to the person or organisation who’s been promoting my confidential survey.
Businesses beware! I’ve mentioned several times before that there is an ‘organisation’/person(s) out there cold-calling businesses trying to get them to advertise in a so-called ‘crime prevention magazine’ or e-zine’. Once they agree and the artwork has been completed they’re sent the bill. I’ve never seen the magazine in print! My problem is that some of these duped businesses think it’s something to do with me and my website – I got five complaint emails in May alone. Please let me assure you that I do not publish a magazine or e-zine and I DO NOT COLD CALL! If you run a business and want to advertise then please do not deal with cold callers, but instead make your own enquiries to find the appropriate vehicle for your firm's promotion.
Joy! The sun has momentarily come out, so it’s back to the DIY
Until next time....
