Here’s something for you to think about with the ‘Spring Forward’ clock change this coming Sunday, 27 March, at 01:00 hours.

If you’re using mechanical timers, or digital ones that do not self-correct for UK clock changes, then next weekend’s clock change will mean that, if you haven’t been doing so already, you’ll have to alter your timers to ensure that your lights come on when they’re supposed to.

I make enough fuss each November when the clocks move the other way; plunging our homes into darkness before many of us get home from work, but it’s equally important to keep up with the length of day as a light coming on too early while it’s still light is almost as bad as a light not coming on when it gets dark. That’s because they both suggest that people might not be at home.

Also, lighter longer days and improving weather will also lead to more window and door opening events and therefore a greater prospect of homes being left insecure, albeit by accident.

So, if you’re going to be affected by anything I‘ve just said then please make the changes to stay one step ahead of the thief.

Incidentally, now perhaps is the ideal time to introduce your family to a sensible locking up routine. I call mine ‘KOPCAR’, because if you KOPCAR at night you won’t have to call a cop car in the morning. Take a look at my page on the subject.
