As you know, I publish the occasional press reported news story to highlight the fact that if we don’t take precautions to keep hold of our stuff then someone will come along and take it!
This time it’s a story from the online Derbyshire Times.... (Summarised)
Overnight from 7pm on Friday 19th February to 11.30am the following morning in Lower Hague, New Mills thieves forced open a garage door and stole two high-value mountain bikes (Crime reference CR/7696/16). They were:
- Black and white Scott Cross team
- Black and white Scott Scale 750
On the same night in Hague Fold, New Mills thieves broke into a shed and stole another high-value mountain bike (Crime reference CR/7661/16. This one was a:
- White Whyte Cambridge
Derbyshire police and, more specifically, PC Gareth Podmore are appealing for anyone with information about the incidents or the whereabouts of the bikes to get in touch by calling 101 or call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 if you wish to remain anonymous.
TCPW Comment
Naturally, the police are urging residents to make sure their sheds and garages are properly secured and any bikes they keep in them are locked up correctly, marked and registered.
It’s not just high-value bikes that we keep in our outbuildings, but an array of other valuable gear that’s easy to sell on down the pub, on eBay, or down at the local car boot sale
We’re in March now and so we’re getting to that time of year when we start to spend more time in the garden doing our DIY and getting our hands dirty, so please check your sheds and garages and follow the guidance on this website to make sure they’re secure. If you own a bike, and lots of you do, then please make sure you read our Bike Security section, because you know it makes sense!
