The Crime Prevention Website

These words written by a Neighbourhood Watch member, Colin, were recently sent to me by Mark of the Redbridge Neighbourhood Watch. Mark tells me that we have permission to share them and so I do.

Here’s the full message including Mark’s introduction:

I came across these words from our friend in Essex. I was truly moved, as I hope you will be too. Colin has granted permission for them to be repeated. If your Borough borders with Essex too, I will gladly put you in touch.

The underlying value, which I shall mention time and time again is that communication is so very important to NHW. Why do we all sit in our "dens", reinventing the wheel, time and time again. If we just learned to share, life in NHW land would become far less of a task and far more effective. Fresh perspectives from the eyes of others, is invaluable. When will we ever learn?

Colin's wording:

At this time of the year, we also reflect upon the ultimate sacrifice, that many of our friends and relatives have made in the two world wars and other conflicts, and we remember them with fondness and admiration.

It is a great shame, that in many parts of our world today, some people have not taken heed of History, and in the name of religion, politics, greed, or for other reasons, have chosen to wage war on fellow human beings.   In the words taken from a well known song ‘When will they ever learn!’

Primarily, as a result of their, and others actions, we live in fear of terrorist reprisals, civil unrest and disorder, yet, due to the economic downturn, and consequent cutbacks, our Emergency services and indeed, military personnel, are being reduced to worrying levels.  I am not politically motivated, in any way shape or form, but, like many people of my age, I am concerned for the future of my children and grandchildren!

I keep beating the drum, about the importance of everyone pulling together, playing their part in looking out for each other, helping to keep communities safe.   This is no longer an option, but is now a necessity, if we want to get through these difficult times, survive, and come out with our heads held high.  We cannot afford to leave it to someone else!

So, I will now ‘get off my soapbox,’ and ask you to spread the word about the benefits of starting or joining  ‘Neighbourhood Watch,’ and between us, let’s see if we can double the number of schemes or groups across EppingForest, Brentwood and Harlow!

Remember:  It’s Your Community – Your Responsibility – Your Challenge, to help everyone Keep Alert, Keep Secure and Keep Safe!
