For Norfolk police to bring a number of bike thefts to the notice of the local press means that what’s been going on is unusual for the area.
These are the thefts:
- September 19 Regent Road area around 5pm - Carrera bicycle, dark blue with orange stripes
- September 19 Regent Road area around 5pm - Ladies burgundy and cream bicycle
- September 19 Market Gates area around 7.30pm - Man’s Carrera Crossfire mountain bike
- September 22 Cobbs Place overnight from a property - Apollo mountain bike, black and white
- September 22 Cobbs Place overnight from a property - Halfords X-Rated mountain bike, silver
The local police are obviously asking people to better secure their bikes and if anyone has any information on any of the thefts they are asked to contact PC Gary Gibbs at Norfolk Constabulary on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
TCPW Comment:
By the very nature of a bicycle being lightweight, transportable and relatively easy to steal it is no wonder why so many get stolen during the course of a year. It has to be said though, that those that do get stolen invariably have not been secured properly, pointing us to the glaring truth that much more can be done to prevent their theft.
The obvious measures to take include: Marking and registering the bike on a database, so you can easily provide the police with its details; locking it up in the right location to something substantial in the correct manner using two different types of lock encompassing the frame and the wheels.
