Lead thieves have struck for a sixth time in a matter of weeks after targeting a church in Hundon.
The theft took place between 5pm Thursday 17 September and 9am Friday 18 September at All Saints Church in North Street.
Lead was stolen from two sections of roof measuring 60ft x 11ft each, with an estimated value of £30,000. Parts of the parapet were damaged in the process which will cost an estimated £4,000 to repair.
This incident follows other recent church lead thefts across the county, the first of which occurred on 23 August in Combs. This was followed by further crimes in Lavenham, Stratford St Mary, Parham and Dennington.
Police continue to appeal for residents to report any suspicious persons or vehicles they may have seen in their communities or near to churches. Enquiries as a result of these thefts have resulted in reports of vans being seen in some of the areas concerned during the early hours of the morning.
Members of the public are asked to report any suspicious activity at the moment they witness it by dialling 999.
Anyone with information about this crime is asked to contact Bury St Edmunds CID on 101 quoting reference HH/15/2376, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
