The Crime Prevention Website

The Irish Examiner is carrying a short news story today about Gardai urging people to light up their homes to deter burglars.

Police in the UK too will be starting to promote the same messages as the nights draw in and the risk of burglary goes up.

Ireland’s National Crime Prevention Unit makes the point that unlit homes and homes that appear to be unoccupied are much more vulnerable to burglary and back this up with the fact that twice as many homes were burgled between 5pm and 10pm last November when compared with June.

Sergeant Kelvin Courtney of the Unit urges people to “illuminate their homes to eliminate burglary” – rather catchy I thought!

There’s a lot of information about lighting and crime prevention on this website to guide you, so do please take a look.
