The Crime Prevention Website

Well, after a glorious summer (only kidding!) a lot of our schools start back today and with the return you might be interested to learn that the risk of theft and burglary can increase.

Why is this?

Often it’s because it takes a little while to get back into routine and without routine things get forgotten.  Locking up the house or flat properly is one of the things that can be forgotten, especially if you’re running a little late and need to get the children to school on time; it’s easily done.

Also, for many households where both parents are working, the home will now be unoccupied for most of the day; a change in circumstances that can provide for greater opportunity for the thief.

What to do?

Think about these changes in your daily routing and circumstances and what you can do to bring crime opportunity back down to a sensible level.

Carry out our free Home Security Survey and use the report you’ll be sent as a starting point to improve your home security.  Doing this now will give you plenty of time to carry out the improvements in better weather and in good time for the clock change on 25th October when police services across the country will record a marked increase in burglary.

I know there are cost implications for home security, but there are many things you can do that will cost nothing and even those things that are expensive (such as an alarm) will be one-off costs that will remain effective for many years.

I know it’s all about new trousers and school shoes at this time of year, but don’t forget the security of your home.
