I am grateful to the Nuneaton and Bedworth Neighbourhood Watch for highlighting this type of fraud on their website.
These letters all follow similar lines and neighbours along my street have received similar ones to the one shown below:
For a laugh do have a read!
Dear XXX
It is my prayers that you receive this letter this time, as I had previously tried to send letters to you from my district, hence the reason I have now sent a colleague travelling to Europe to help me use the European postal system for quick delivery to you, as it became inevitably urgent for me to make contact with you. I am writing with regards to Mr Gerald xxxxx now deceased, a long-time customer of my bank. I have been able to contact you after I hired a private heir hunter to look for someone honest and with a similar last name as later Gerald. After much search by the heir hunter; your details where found and forwarded to me, that is why I am contacting to make you the sole beneficiary to the estate of the late Gerald worth USD10,150,000.00 [$10.15 million] because he never left a Will or Next of kin in his file I want you to respond to me by reconfirming your full details immediately you receive this letter via Email or Telephone number. Upon the receipt of your information, I will proceed with all necessary documentations in your name to officially make you the Next-of-Kin and beneficiary to late Gerald so that these funds could be made available to you confidentially without anyone knowing about it. Note that the process would take approximately two to three weeks to complete and the funds would be in your nominated bank account. I know this might be a bit heavy for you but please trust me on this; for all your trouble I propose that we split money in half. In the banking circle here in Hong Kong, this happens every time. If we do not claim these funds for ourselves, the only option is that the money will revert back to the State and government officials will end up diverting it themselves. Hence you need to note that nobody is getting hurt and this is a lifetime opportunity for us as I hold the KEY to these funds and as a Chinese National we see so much cash and funds being re-assigned daily I await your urgent response Mr Gao Uow Email:goauow@yahoo.com.hk Tel:+852-8191-1433
Actually, this is by far the most useless one I’ve read so far!
All of these scam letters will say much the same thing, will be poorly written and often include some reference to prayers and god. All of them have one objective in mind and that is to empty your bank account. I have one of these stuck on my downstairs lavatory wall so that my wife’s clients can read it!
I’m sure you won’t ever be fooled!
