Between 6pm on Monday and 9am on Tuesday last week, seven cars were broken into in the following streets:
- Foxhall Road. Window smashed. Tin stolen from within the car
- Parliament Road mobile phone was stolen from within the car
- Digby Road. Window smashed, nothing stolen
- Lattice Avenue. Cash stolen from within the car
- Henslow Road. Pink purse containing cash and cards stolen from within the car
- Belvedere Road. iPod stolen from within the car
So what are Ipswich police doing about it? More to the point, what are car owners doing about it, because nearly all of these crimes were preventable and therefore unnecessary; tying up our police with extra patrols when they could be doing something even more important.
Sergeant Gareth Northwood of the local police has advised people to lock the cars and remove property from view, pointing out that car thieves are opportunists looking for an easy grab. They’ll simply walk along a street trying car door handles and will not think twice about smashing a side window to grab what they can see.
Theft from vehicle has just got to be one of the easiest crimes to prevent!
