The Crime Prevention Website

Thursdays and Fridays are the days that I spend some time doing a little research to help improve the prospects of The Crime Prevention Website (TCPW) being found. It’s a labour of love, let me tell you!

This time round I thought I’d do something quite simple and search Google for the term ‘neighbourhood watch’. There’s a good reason for doing this because next week I’m planning to send out a large number of emails to Neighbourhood Watches that operate websites, but do not link to TCPW. I haven’t done this since the beginning of the year, so I’m hoping that I might gain a few new Partners.

Operating my crime prevention website is very satisfying, especially when you know you’ve managed to help someone who would otherwise have struggled to do the right thing. However, my written advice is only going to be of use if it’s found!

This is why I really need more websites to link to mine and why I’ve just spent hours surfing the net (It just can’t be healthy!)

So, just like that German army officer on Dad’s Army, I’ve got my list!

On the list there are 79 Neighbourhood Watch websites. These appeared on the first 50 pages of my search. Of the 79 listed TCPW is already partnering 26 of them (33%). Not bad! Even better is the fact that of the top 10 in the list 7 of them are partnering TCPW!

However, there were some surprises in store as a number of my partnering Neighbourhood Watch websites just didn’t appear on the list – about 20 of them and some of them are very active indeed and worthy of being top of the list!

How Google selects the websites to be displayed in the search results is a complete mystery to me and although I’ve been given lots of advice about ‘Search Engine Optimisation’ (SEO) I still don’t get it and reckon the best way to get my website to dizzy heights is simply to write to people and ask them if they might want to link up.

So, if you’re reading this and are one of the Neighbourhood Watch sites that don’t link to TCPW then do please think about doing it.

Linking to TCPW introduces your own members and site visitors to more than 200,000 words of advice and our popular Home Security Survey. What’s more, some of my site’s ‘Google juice’ will rub off on yours and make your site more likely to appear in those first 50 pages – at least I think that’s what will happen!

Have a great, safe weekend!
