The Crime Prevention Website

I’ve just added a new page – Partnering the police – into my new and growing Police Guidance section where I encourage my police visitors to have a chat with the boss about a link to my website.

To make my case for a link I have cited some of the statistically significant findings from our Home Security Survey Application.

I have said before that I am worried about the future ability of the police service to provide the public with crime prevention advice and my survey results are sadly confirming my fears.

For the first time since I started to take measurements fewer than 50% of the public even realise that they can get crime prevention advice from the police (The figure is 49.5% - down from 53.1% in 2013) And when given advice by the police the ‘helpfulness’ measure is also going the wrong way – 12.7% used to say it was ‘very helpful’ in 2013, but now it’s only 10.7%.

Like you, I want our police service to be able to offer the public accurate and up-to-date advice when a victim asks for it and yet this is evidently not happening in a lot of cases mainly because the police are employing fewer specialists due to the budget cuts.

So, I’m simply offering an extra place for the public to come to for help and to directly help the police effort by promoting their crime prevention activity.

I hope some of them take me up on the offer – it’s free!
