The Crime Prevention Website

Here’s a good news story for the elderly in the Blackburn area.

Ajmal Sattar, 44; a thoroughly despicable burglar of that parish has just been sentenced to seven years and three months for a total of fourteen burglaries during which he deliberately targeted the elderly and frail.

The one for which he was caught occurred in Preston New Road, Blackburn where the target was 86 year-old Hannah Hogg. To cut a long story short, Sattar tricked his way into the lady’s home with the excuse that he wanted to borrow a pencil and have a drink and whilst in there rifled the lady’s handbag and stole £15. During the ‘visit’ Hannah made Sattar a cup of tea. After he left Hannah realised immediately that he’d stolen from her and contacted a neighbour who called the police.

Unfortunately for Sattar but fortunately for the people of Blackburn the idiot left his DNA on the tea cup!

He was subsequently arrested and is now languishing in gaol.

Whilst this individual can no longer do anymore harm, thanks to the work of Lancashire Police, he’ll no doubt be out again in three or four years and will be back to the same old tricks. It’s also a sad fact that for every Sattar in gaol there are many others out there doing exactly the same cowardly acts. This is why we must keep an eye out for our elderly and vulnerable neighbours and step in when we think there might be a problem. My neighbours know they can always call me for help and they have my phone number to do just that.

There’s lots of advice for people like Hannah on this website so if you get a chance to raise this matter over a cup of tea then please do so.

Note my preference to the word ‘gaol’ instead of ‘jail’ :-)
