The Crime Prevention Website

I hear the weather’s going to be much better this weekend and I guess that some of you will be out in the garden for a bit of a barbie. Can I therefore persuade some of you to take five minutes to look around your garden with your security hat on?

  • Can your fences be easily climbed?
  • Do you lock away your barbecue when you’ve finished with it?
  • Is there a European standard padlock on the side gate and maybe on the shed door?
  • Have you got tools lying around? (which can be used to force open a door or window)
  • Have you changed the lamp in the security light?
  • Are the lighter fluid and the matches locked away after use?
  • Is the pedestrian door to the garage properly secured?

These are just a few of the questions you might want to ask yourself this weekend and, while I’m on the subject of home security, the number of people taking our Home Security Survey has dropped quite a bit since (funny enough) - the election!  What’s that all about? Are people suddenly feeling safer? I’m glad you are, but the chances of burglary and theft from around the house are the same this week as they were the week before, so don’t drop your guard and make 2015 the year you finally and properly secured your home.

Have a great weekend!
