Press Release
Police community support officers in Whitehaven are working to help protect bicycles in west Cumbria by holding a series of security marking events.
PCSOs will be in the Whitehaven area on six days, over the coming months to encourage people to get their bikes marked and registered to help deter thieves from stealing them and also assisting in returning a recovered bike to the rightful owner.
PCSOs will be available on the following dates:
- Sunday 19th April, 10am-12pm, at Whitehaven Sports Centre.
- Saturday 25th April, 2pm-4pm, at Tesco supermarket on North Shore Rd.
- Saturday 2nd May, 1pm-3pm, Home Bargains store on Preston St.
- Saturday 23rd May, 1pm-3pm, at The Hub on Whitehaven Harbourside near to the slipway.
- Saturday 30th May, 2pm-4pm, at Tesco supermarket on North Shore Road.
- Sunday 28th June, 10am-12pm, at Whitehaven Sports Centre.
At these events people will have the opportunity to bring their bikes along and have them securely marked with BikeRegister permanent ID etchings at a small cost of £5 (normally £16.99); this also includes free registration to BikeRegister’s national database, which all UK Police forces have access to. This is a small charge but will ensure that the scheme can continue and we can hold more events like these in the future.
Anyone who is interested in having their bike security marked and is unable to make one of the event dates, or would like to organise a similar event can contact PCSO Mark Fishpool at Whitehaven Police Station on 101 for more information.
Further information about BikeRegister and their products can be found by visiting www.bikeregister.com.
