A short article in the on-line Express and Star yesterday tells us that Hammerwich Cricket Club (Staffordshire) has just received £3,000 cash from local Police and Crime Commissioner Matthew Ellis’s People Power Fund.
The money is to be used to install extra security measures after a number of attempted break-ins and thefts, including the theft of a two-ton lawn roller.
The club in Burntwood Road is using the money to install steel doors and alarm systems to all of its outbuildings.
David Henn, Chairman of Hammerwich CC, said: “A grant from the People Power Fund has enabled the club to complete security measures such as a palisade entrance gate. A CCTV system has been installed in and around the clubhouse and anti-ram telescopic barriers have been fitted.....”
TCPW Comment: Using public money to support physical and electronic crime prevention work will always carry my support, because this type of investment has a long shelf life and so will protect the club’s buildings and their contents for many years to come. It’s only a small club with 90 members, but it has a thriving youth section, so not only will the new security measures greatly reduce the club’s exposure to crime risk, but they will ensure its continued function as a place for young people to engage in positive and healthy activity.
