I read in Cannock’s Express and Star on-line newspaper the following story concerning new council powers and new instant fines for anti-social behaviour.

The item is headed £100 on-the-spot fines for nuisance neighbours

Yobs who make life hell for their neighbours face £100 on-the-spot fines under tough new measures being drawn up by Cannock Council (Staffs).

Dog owners who regularly fail to control their pets and residents who persist in using their gardens as a dumping ground will also be hit with the penalty.

Those who fail to pay up will be taken to court and face a £2,500 fine or three months in prison.

The powers are available under new government legislation brought in to make sure community problems can be dealt with faster and more directly, including by issuing fixed penalty notices.

Each council can set its own fine up to a limit of £100. Cannock Council is expected to fine nuisance neighbours the full amount – and shun a discount for early payment........
