A sobering list of the 50 most violent cities in the world is brought to you by Business insider UK.

Bottom of the list (the ‘good’ end) is Valencia, Venezuela, which had 30.04 homicides per 100,000 residents.  The worst city in the US is Detroit with 46.99 per 100,000, but even worse are cities in South America, such as Brazil, Mexico, Colombia and Guatemala. Other cities of note include Kingston Jamaica with a figure of 52.83 and Cape Town with 50.94.  San Pedro Sula in Honduras tops the list with 187.14 homicides per 100,000.

In contrast there were 99 murders in London in 2013, which is about 0.7 murders per 100,000 residents per year.
